Intermediate Conversation 4: Learning a Foreign Language

進階會話內容原文                                     Listen!

A: Do you speak any foreign languages, George?

B: Yeah!

A: Which ones?

B: German, Chinese, and Swedish.

A: Wow! Could you tell me that how you go about learning another language?

B: Well, I learned every language in a different way. Let’s take Chinese.

I lived in Taiwan for a year. When I first went over there, I knew no Chinese. And so I started taking classes two hours a day. I also tried to read the signs and listen to people. And I was also an English teacher. So I would have all my students help me learn new words.

A: Did you find that was an effective way to learn?

B: Yeah, my Chinese was pretty good after a year.

A: Do you have any special tricks that help you to learn the language?

B: Oh, definitely! I study grammar. And I try to say as much as I can.

And I try to learn from my mistakes.
